An analogy might be helpful.
The various security tools can be compared to sensors:
- EDR
- firewall
- IAM
- cloud
- antivirus
- IDS.
The SIEM then plays a role comparable to a central nervous system, which receives signals from different parts of the environment.
It gathers this information to enable a comprehensive understanding. However, this analogy has its limitations: a SIEM is not an autonomous brain and requires configuration, rules, processes, and human expertise.
